Best, brightest, clearest pictue I have seen
by stevebauman on October 10, 2007
Pros: Bright, crisp, clear very high resolution picture, easy setup, 3 HDMI inputs
Cons: Input change latency, price, component Video in doesn't always synch

Summary: I compared Latest 120 HZ (fast scan for motion) LCDs, plasma, and eliminated everything else except SONY MBR4 and Samsung. Priced at Amazon at $1999 with no tax and shipment was about $400 less expensive than SONY. Easy setup and use - all you need is the Quick Setup pamphlet - is testimony of well-designed UI. Some issues with Component Video from ReplayTV 5500 synching. Remote control can't control DVR so still left with several "clickers" which inconveniences my wife. But considering all issues, this is the best TV with superb pictures and features I have ever owned - or seen. You can't go wrong with this one.

A real "sleeper" in the 2007 lineup
by gtay on October 7, 2007

Summary: I've been shopping HDTVs for several months and the specs for this machine seemed tailor made for what I wanted. The original listed price seemed a bit high so I waited for a couple of weeks and a "Columbus Day" special had it for exactly 1000 under the listed retail price. Glad I waited and I'm very pleased with almost everything about this purchase. Setup was a snap, for most things the quick guide is all you need. I do think some additional speakers might be nice (but not necessary) because of our den's layout and the TV is in a bit of a recessed area causing some audio muffling. Some reviews have cited the glare resulting from the super shiny screen but this has not been a problem----that said, there is quite a lot of reflection when the set is off but negligible when on. There is a couple of seconds lag when changing channels, just enough to be slightly annoying but hardly enough to warrant a complaint. The shiny black piano case may be a problem for my wife since she says it will show every fingerprint and smudge---and since the kit includes a special cloth for cleaning that may be a valid concern. All in all, I consider this to be an excellent nucleus to build a home entertainment center around. I failed to mention that I live in a marginal cable area with occasional pixelating and frequent drops on my old CRT. So far this has not happened on this set---of course I did upgrade my cable box which may have helped. For the price I think this is a very good choice.

Sleek & Stunning

To get the most out of your HDTV the must buy purchase is a Monster HMDI 24Karat cable. This $100 item will make your television seem like looking out of a window. It is a crime to use anything less than a HDMI cable. Spend the extra money.
Samsung make the most visual appealing tv's currently and I'm not speaking out the picture.
A great buy for the money.

Best in Class - Price/Performance Bang for the Buck!

120HZ FEATURE:
With this being one of the earlier sets in the 120hz technology release I have found its performance to be outstanding. The great part about the 120hz technology on this tv is its adjustablilty has three levels of adjustment vs. Sony's XBR4's 2. It also has a USB for future firmware upgrades so as the technology improves your LNT4071 will not be left behind, as Samsung is making firmware upgrades available.
I love the Super Clear Panel vs. the Matte finish of most LCTV's because it really causes the black and color levels to stand out. I couldn't stop looking at this model, I saw the Sony XBR4 but my eyes kept coming back to the '71. The glare is minimal compared to the old CRT which all of us got pretty used to, and because this LCTV has a 500 nit brightness level it really makes the glare minimal in all but the brightest of rooms.
Though many would argue that it's main competitor the XBR4 is a better performer, I would argue the contrary due to the higher dynamic contrast ratio- Sony's 18,000:1 vs. Samsung's 25,000:1. Also considering the 71's price on average is $400+ less expensive it really gives one an incentive to go with the Sammy, also the styling on the Samsung with the piano black finish vs. Sony's somewhat dated look with the glass and gray bezel - the 71's swivel stand, and motion sensing "power-on" feature where you move your hand in front of the Samsung logo on the front to power your tv on or off is great!
VIEWING ANGLE is great with minimal color washout at a higher viewing angle.
SOUND performance is up to par. I prefer the speakers mounted on the sides as it seems to enhance the sound quality especially with True Surround XT enabled. I really like that it has the 5 band equalizer feature so you can really hone in the sound for whatever room you have the set in.
One thing to not is that many of the Samsung panels are manufactured at the same factories that Sony gets its panels from.
STANDARD TV looks quite good on this set but you have to make adjustments in the settings to get it to look it's best, I recommend Dynamic Contrast ration and Black level set to high. The brightness is so high on this set; I lower the backlight level to 5 or 6 because it can really make your room seem like it's glowing.
Remote control has a nice layout, nice sleek/thin design; only power, volume, and channel button's can be illuminated on the remote by pushing the little light bulb button. Responsiveness is solid.
Standard DVD's look great; Pixar movies are a real treat on this set.
I use this TV as a computer monitor as well and the "GAME MODE" feature works perticularly well and man do your games come alive at 1920x1080!!! Color and detail are spectacular!
I have had this set for over 3 weeks now and it has not disappointed at all, though I did have to do an exchange due to a bad pixel, apparently due to the high volume of shipping during the holidays there is a greater liklihood of damage to these tv's while in transit. But my new one works great!
Way to go Samsung! This is the sleeper hit of 2007 in the HD LCTV market best bang for your buck in it's class. Why are you still reading this review, go get one now!

Summary: This is the first HDTV I've purchased, but I did a lot of comparison shopping. When I was buying CRTs Sony was always the front runner. When it comes to LCD HDTVs Samsung is now king. The cliche "a picture is worth a thousand words" definitely applies here. I did a lot of research and nothing compares to the amazing picture this set produces. The images are razor sharp with incredibly brilliant colors. The picture literally leaps off of the screen. It almost looks like 3D. With a resolution of 1920 x 1080, Auto Motion Plus refresh rate of 120 Hz and a phenomenal contrast ratio of 25,0000:1, nothing else compares. When I first turned it on the whole family sat there with jaws dropped! I found myself actually watching shows I normally wouldn't even be interested in just to enjoy the picture. Set up was a breeze. Be sure to get the HDMI cable to squeeze the best performance out of it. My cable provider provided a free one with the HDTV box. To put the icing on the cake, the aesthetics make this set worthy of a spot in your local Art museum. All I can say is please do yourself a favor.....BUY THIS TV! You won't regret it.

Summary: As soon as I saw this LCD at BB I was speechless. It was either between the sony XBR4 or the 71 series. The detail of what you can do with the picture is amazing, the lcd gives you an option to a detailed menu to change the color and the contrast to really make you picture the best it can be. When you play Xbox 360 or blu-ray on this lcd the picture is jaw dropping- it really has that WOW effect. YOu cant go wrong with the 71!
